Saturday Beer Review: Hoppy Feet Black IPA (Clown Shoes)

Appearance: Wonderfully dark, not like a stout but with a deep ruby brown color and a beige creamy head.

Aroma: Complex aroma with strong hops character only barely balanced by the malts. Licorice is strong in the aroma.

Mouthfeel: Bitter and astringent; powerful and lingering aftertaste.

Taste: Too much going on here. Perhaps with a better choices of malt, there’d be enough to offset the strong hoppiness but as it is, this is the wrong combination. Nothing but the bitterness of the hops with little offset from the malt.

Drinkability: I wanted to like this beer. I really did. But it’s too bitter and not balanced correctly. Not highly drinkable.
