Saturday Beer Review: Black Marlin Porter (Ballast Point)

Appearance: Creamy, tan, sustained head, extremely dark brown, verging on black with ruby highlights visible only in strong light. The perfect appearance for a black porter, in other words.
Aroma: Sweet and toasty with a suggestion of caramel, toffee and coffee. No fruity esters I could pick up.
Mouthfeel: Medium-high viscosity, slight warming from alcohol (surprising given that it’s only 6% ABV) and nice creaminess.
Taste: An extremely well balanced porter with the dark malts and hops matching each other perfectly. It’s quite dry with a toasted notes.
Drinkability: This is a porter! Beautifully executed, highly drinkable and not at all filling, in spite of its dark appearance.
